Excellent: Award Ceremony for the Diversity of Internationalization at TU Dresden
The major international crises of the year - war, displacement, flight, and the effects of climate change, are also reflected in this year's award ceremony for the diversity of internationalization at the TU Dresden.
Ianina Scheuch, Regional Ambassador for Ukraine and Great Britain, was honored for her great personal commitment to a wide range of initiatives on the international campus, promoting mental health and social cohesion. Yuliia Haluza, a student of the master program Regenerative Biology and Medicine, received the DAAD Award for International Students for her support of people affected by the war in Ukraine. How the arrival of international students in Germany and Dresden can be supported and how connection and exchange can succeed at the same time is shown by the Student Welcome Initiative as well as the language café „Sprachcafé“ of the Hochschulgruppe der Navigatoren.
Science lives and benefits from international exchange. One example of this is the international research cooperation of the ABCD-Centre, in which partners from Germany, India and Thailand are jointly establishing a Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre to meet global challenges such as climate change. Mental health, another increasingly global topic, is the focus of a cooperation between the university group AufeinanderAchten and universities in Kenya and Ghana.
In order to honor and to make the diversity of internationalization at TU Dresden more visible, the annual Internationalization Award was introduced in 2016. The DAAD Award for International Students, which was announced again after a two-year break, serves the same purpose. A total of 20 initiatives and project leaders took part in this year's call for entries for the Internationalization Award, while eight students were nominated by their professors for the DAAD Award. All of the projects submitted clearly demonstrate the commitment of students, researchers and staff at TU Dresden to cosmopolitanism, innovative international research cooperation, an international campus and global networking.
On October 19th, this year's award winners were announced and honored in the Dülfer Hall of TU Dresden in the presence of Prof. Ronald Tetzlaff, Chief Officer Technology Transfer and Internationalization (CTIO). In his welcome address, Professor Tetzlaff emphasized the importance of internationalization in TU Dresden's development into a modern university of the 21st century. "Internationalization [...] is a process that is constantly progressing, is subject to social changes, and requires personal commitment and appreciation as a motivator." He expressed his gratitude not only to those who received awards this year, but also to all who are committed to internationalization on a daily basis, and expressed his wish that even more members of TU Dresden would incorporate and expand the internationalization of our university in their work.
The internationalisation award is funded by the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments.
