Chinese New Year Celebrations at TU Dresden
While New Year's Eve celebrations were already held a few weeks ago in Germany, China is looking forward to welcome the Chinese New Year at the end of January. Chunjie, as the New Year and Spring Festival is called as well, is traditionally celebrated this year on January 31. It is one of the most important holidays in China and enjoys a similar status as Christmas in Germany.
On this occasion the Chinese Students and Scholars Association Dresden e.V. organized a festive stage program. In addition to various cultural performances such as Peking Opera, saxophone playing, cabaret, hip hop dance and pop songs, there were also ceremonial greetings by the Mayor of Dresden, Dirk Hilbert, and the team of the International Office of the TU Dresden.
A special highlight of this year's New Year's celebration was the fusion of performing Chinese students with the Dresden cityscape. Touching performances in front of the Frauenkirche, at the river Elbe or in front of the Yenidze demonstrated in an aesthetic and symbolic way the cultural and interpersonal rapprochement, as well as the daily practice and the further potential of mutual exchange and togetherness.
Chinese students form the numerically largest international group at the TU Dresden. Out of a total of almost 5,000 international students and doctoral candidates, 1,625 Chinese have found their way to the TU Dresden and enrich campus life and the city society in many ways.
The Chinese lunar calendar places the year 2022 under the sign of the water tiger. While the element water is attributed with characteristics such as new beginnings and purification, the tiger stands for courage, strength and creative power. In this sense, 2022 will hopefully see many innovative ideas full of energy put into practice.
The TU Dresden wishes all its Chinese students, scientists and employees a happy, healthy and successful year 2022!
