Paleobotanical Collection

Pecopteris plumosa, schist Niederwuerschnitz
This collection of approximately 800 specimens of fossil plants was assembled over many years by the palaeobotanist Harald Walther for his lectures. In addition to his own procurements, especially from lignite opencast mining areas in eastern Germany and Bohemia, donations by colleagues and private collectors contributed to a virtually complete documentation of the fossil record of plant evolution based on selected pieces.
