WILDWUCHS - On the death and survival of the forest
An artistic reflection by Juliane Vowinckel and Marco Borowski at Kunsthaus Raskolnikow

From September 4, 2025, the Kunsthaus Raskolnikow in Dresden invites visitors to engage with the forest. The exhibition WILDWUCHS combines artistic and scientific perspectives and is dedicated to the delicate balance between the destruction and resilience of our forests.

Art and science in dialog

The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections at TU Dresden and the Emerging Field "Forest-Water Dynamics in Climate Change" as part of the University of Excellence at TU Dresden. Prof. Dr. Marianne Darbi from Hochschule Geisenheim University provided the scientific impetus.

The artist and cultural geographer Juliane Vowinckel and the photographer and videographer Marco Borowski present a dramaturgical journey through the forest that tells of loss and hope. Their works are based on intensive research in the forest areas of the Harz Mountains, in the Sababurg primeval forest and in the burnt areas of the Gohrischheide in the district of Meißen. Sketches and analog photographs were created there.

A path through the forest - of loss and hope

The exhibition leads through two contrasting zones:

• An installation translates the death of trees into a form that can be experienced by the senses. A sound and light installation, which emerges from a central sculpture of a tree stump made of clay, is a reminder of what is lost in the shadows.

• In the second part of the gallery, a warm, light-flooded atmosphere welcomes visitors. Photographs, paintings and sculptures show the diversity, vitality and power of the forest.
