“The Mass of Money”: Quadrature opens the Exhibition for the Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden 2026 on September 29, 2026

On September 29, 2026, the artist duo Quadrature (Juliane Götz and Sebastian Neitsch) will open their exhibition The Mass of Money at the Office for Academic Heritage, Scientific and Art Collections at TU Dresden. The exhibition presents the results of the Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden 2026 and takes place as part of the international conference Data↔Worlds, at which the Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden will showcase the results of its second funding phase from September 28 to 30.

What happens when the concentration of wealth is viewed as a physical phenomenon? In The Mass of Money, Quadrature focuses on the elusive dimensions of capital, wealth concentration, and global inequality. Drawing on economic data, the artist duo translates abstract market processes and capital flows into planetary and cosmological analogies. Models from physics serve as the starting point for an artistic investigation: celestial bodies, galaxies, and black holes appear as metaphors for densification, attraction, and the self-reinforcing dynamics of wealth.

The exhibition is the result of the six-month Schaufler Residency@TU Dresden 2026. During their residency, Juliane Götz and Sebastian Neitsch collaborated with researchers from various disciplines at TUD as well as with members of the Schaufler Kolleg@TU Dresden. Their research partners included, among others, Alexander Kemnitz and Lars Hornuf from the Department of Business Administration and Economics, Axel Voigt from the Department of Mathematics, and Florian Tschorsch from the Department of Computer Science, as well as Nelly Saibel from the Schaufler Kolleg@TU Dresden. The exchange between artistic research and scholarly perspectives on capital, data, and inequality fed directly into the development of the exhibition.

At the same time, The Mass of Money is a key component of the international closing conference Data↔Worlds, which will take place from September 28 to 30, 2026, at the Görges Building at TU Dresden. The conference marks the conclusion of the second funding phase of the Schaufler Lab@TU Dresden under the overarching theme “Data↔Worlds: Sociotechnical and Cultural Syntheses of New Realities.”

The exhibition opening will take place on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the University Gallery in the Görges Building, Helmholtzstraße 9, 01069 Dresden.
