Experience science up close! Girls' Day on April 23, 2026
Girls' Day 2026 at TUD Dresden University of Technology (TUD) offers exciting workshops in the fields of computer science, physics, chemistry, medicine, materials science and environmental science. Here, schoolgirls can discover the world of research, try out new things, ask questions and possibly find a new favorite subject. It is possible to apply for exemption from lessons in order to take part.
Offers from TU Dresden for Girls' Day 2026
- A day at the university (grades 5 - 6): For 5th and 6th grade girls, "A Day at the University" is an ideal introduction to STEM subjects. After a short presentation about the TUD and its degree programs, there is the opportunity to build your own bridge model or discover the world of robotics.
- A day at the university (from grade 7): From grade 7 onwards, "hands-on science" is on the program. After an introductory lecture, students can attend workshops on topics such as nanoelectronics, particle physics or bridge building. A tour of the campus with the opportunity to talk to students rounds off the day.
- LIGHTWEIGHT CONSTRUCTION made easy! (aged 13 and over): The Institute of Lightweight Engineering and Polymer Technology (ILK) shows how components can be made lighter, safer and more sustainable. A tour of the technology halls offers insights into production technologies and test procedures. There will also be the opportunity to ask questions directly about study or training opportunities.
- Sustainable food production and packaging (aged 12 and over): The Institute of Natural Materials Technology shows how food can be produced and packaged more sustainably. The focus is on technologies for the further processing of by-products and the development of sustainable packaging. A hands-on tour of the laboratories allows visitors to experience research first-hand.
- Insights into chemistry (aged 13 and over): Chemistry is omnipresent and can be experienced directly in the laboratory. Pupils carry out exciting experiments and learn how chemistry is connected to everyday life. In addition to the laboratory work, there is a welcome presentation and the opportunity to exchange ideas with other Girls' Day participants over lunch.
- Digitalization in action: research that shapes our future (aged 13 and over): A short workshop on AI and digital media offers the perfect introduction to the world of computer science and digitalization. Afterwards, you can visit the Living Lab and the TUD's computer center, where our supercomputer works. This will show how digital technologies can shape research, teaching and our everyday lives.
- Teamwork in the nanocosmos: How electrons change the world (aged 14 and over): In this workshop, you will explore how electrons work as a team and create materials with extraordinary properties - such as current-conducting metals without resistance. After a short introduction, you will experiment in our laboratories and explore how this "electronic teamwork" is shaping the technologies of the future.
-
See what otherwise remains hidden: Hands-on medical technology (from grade 8): Schoolgirls gain exciting insights into the world of medical technology at the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Digital Health (EKFZ). They learn how gastroscopies (endoscopy) and keyhole operations (laparoscopy) work and can test their skills on simulators.
