elective course ‘Acupuncture’
The elective course ‘Acupuncture’ teaches the theoretical and practical basics of acupuncture based on traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and its integration into Western medicine. Students are introduced to the concepts of acupuncture, learn specific point locations and needling techniques, and carry out practical applications themselves. In addition to direct practical experience, the scientific background to acupuncture is also explained, including current evidence and clinical relevance.
Contents and qualification objectives of the elective course:
- Introduction to traditional Chinese medicine, including acupuncture
- QiGong, TuiNa, Kampo and Chinese dietetics
- Understanding basic TCM concepts and being able to place them in a medical context
- Being able to critically evaluate acupuncture from a scientific perspective
- Be able to confidently identify acupuncture points and evaluate contraindications for acupuncture in clinical practice
- Gain initial practical experience with acupuncture by treating fellow students under supervision
What added value does the elective offer for the overall curriculum?
The elective complements the medical curriculum with naturopathic and TCM concepts. It provides a scientifically sound, practical introduction to acupuncture. Students acquire skills that they can apply directly in their later clinical work.
