"Amnesia" can lead to significant financial and / or legal consequences. A proper records management forms the memory and thereby creates legal and accounting capability.
Competence, Tasks and Services
The branch of the University Archive is responsible for the entire script and archive materials that arise and have arisen in connection with the activities of the FM and of its predecessor, the former Medical Academy "CGC".
The structural units of FM are under the obligation to offer. This means that within the framework of the jurisdiction of the branch the University Archives are to be offered for acquisition all archive documents (analogue, digital) accrued by the structural units, which are no longer needed for continuous fulfilment of tasks.
According to these principles, the branch assumes primarily in analogue and digital form for permanent storage:

Written records of the predecessors of the FM (e.g. the former Medical Academy)

Service records of the FM

Student, graduation and staff records
-
Scientific premature legacies and bequests as well as private writings

Documents of academic self-administration

Documents from teaching and research
-
Documents from the Carus Academy at the University Hospital and its predecessor

Photo and press cutting archives on the development history
And utilises these, according to its legal mandate and scope, as follows:

Accreditation of study documents for diplomata acquired at the FM on the basis of archived files

Acquisition, evaluation, content indexing and listing of written records of archival value

Verification management to support administrative activities

Administrative assistance and provision of information
-
Securing of historical source material
-
archival appraisal of collections
-
Supporting users' interests in science, teaching and research by means of research and provision of archival materials
Legal Foundations
Basis for the transfer or acquisition of official written records (as well as electronic records) is the "Regulation on the Management and Operation of the Technische Universität Dresden" of 11th September, 2014.

Inventory
The inventory of the archive of the FM significantly and representatively documents the history of the administration of the Dresden University Medicine of a period from 1954 to 1993. In addition, there are collections and image documents of the medical history of Dresden before 1954.
