Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders
The core research area "Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders" is one of three focal points in the research of the Carl Gustav Carus Faculty of Medicine (MFD) and is dedicated to exploring complex diseases of the nervous system and the psyche. Our work concentrates on better understanding the causes and mechanisms of these diseases while developing innovative approaches to prevention, diagnosis and treatment. We emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration and modern research technologies to promote the well-being of those affected and strive to improve their quality of life in the long term. This focus is a central cornerstone of our mission to translate scientific progress into tangible improvements for health.

Mission Statement
We are committed to advancing the understanding and treatment of neurological, psychiatric, and psychological disorders through cutting-edge research, education, and societal engagement. Our mission is to bridge the gap between scientific discovery and clinical care, training future leaders and making a meaningful impact on patients' lives. With a strong focus on research integrity, we strive to foster innovation and improve the quality of life for individuals affected by these complex conditions.
- Scientific: Our research delves into the unpredictable nature of neurological/psychiatric/psychological diseases, translating scientific insights into real-world therapies that improve patient well-being and quality of life. By addressing these disorders and diseases' fluctuating symptoms and evolving challenges, we offer innovative solutions that bridge the gap between the lab and clinical care.
-
Education and training: We prepare future leaders in neurological, psychiatric/psychological research and care to equip students and professionals with the skills to advance our understanding and treatment of mental and brain dysfunction.
-
Societal impact: Our research improves patients' quality of life by making groundbreaking discoveries accessible to society. We strive to demystify the complexities of brain diseases and mental disorders, promoting awareness and understanding to create a healthier, more informed community.
-
Research Integrity: We prioritize transparency and collaboration to accelerate breakthroughs and uphold the highest standards of research integrity, ensuring that our work has a lasting, positive impact on understanding and treating the world’s most challenging mental disorders and neurological diseases.
