TU Dresden, University Hospital, and King's College London are working on new network "Mental Health Disorders"
On Wednesday, a group of KCL and TUD experts of Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Psychology, and Systemic Neurosciences gathered at the medical campus of TUD for a two-day workshop to discuss project ideas and funding opportunities. Together, they aim to build a network on “Mental Health Disorders”, supported by transCampus.
“With this workshop, we want to achieve that the complementary research profiles of TUD, University Hospital Dresden, and KCL join forces and build a close network,” says Michael Bauer, Professor of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Medical Faculty TUD and initiator of the workshop. Furthermore, through this network, already existing cooperations will be strengthened even more. The transCampus supports the collaboration of TU Dresden and King’s College London through joint structures in research, teaching, and administration. “With the integration of outstanding scientists from the renowned IoPPN at King's College London into the planned consortium, we are continuing a successful transCampus model,” emphasises Prof. Bornstein, who paved the way for the partnership of both universities in 2015 and has since been pushing the incorporation of further departments. The already well-established network will be facilitating collaborative research for young academics in particular. Prof. Clemens Kirschbaum, Head of Department for Mathematics and Natural Sciences of TU Dresden and holder of the Chair of Biopsychology, says: “The cross-faculty networking of psychological and psychiatric disciplines, which also strengthens the interdisciplinary training of young scientists and doctors, deserves special mention in this initiative.”
In the medium term, the network offers the opportunity to jointly apply for the National Health Centre for Mental Illnesses announced by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
