🎉 New FDPG study launched!
In a joint collaboration between the sites in Chemnitz, Cottbus, Dresden, and Leipzig, a new study has been approved within the framework of the Health Research Data Portal (FDPG): OMOP_Study_Corneal_Ulcer
The project is funded by the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space as part of the FDPG, the Medical Informatics Initiative (MII), and the Medical Informatics Hub in Saxony (MiHUBx).
🔍 What is it about?
The COVID-19 pandemic has not only changed our daily lives but has also had a lasting impact on healthcare, including ophthalmology 👁️.
The aim of the study is to analyze these changes using robust routine data:
• Comparison of the frequency of corneal ulcer diagnoses before the pandemic (July 2017–December 2019) and during the pandemic (January 2020–June 2022)
• Analysis of regional differences
• Investigation of length of stay, readmissions, and surgical procedures
Methodology
Anonymized routine data from tertiary care hospitals are extracted locally via FHIR servers, transformed into the OMOP Common Data Model, and analyzed using OHDSI tools (including ATLAS) as well as classical statistical methods. The aggregated meta-analysis is conducted at the Dresden site.
Why is this relevant?
• Objective evidence instead of subjective assessments
• Sound basis for healthcare planning and resource management
• Impulses for improved treatment concepts for patients with corneal diseases
