Dresden Medical Informatics in the NUM Study Network – Hackathon in Giessen
Hackathon in Gießen
As part of the NUM Study Network, our researchers at the Center for Medical Informatics continuously work within AP4 on the development of a powerful recruitment infrastructure. The goal is to provide automated recruitment for the various specialist networks – including the Specialist Network Infections - SNID, the Specialist Network Stroke - STROKE, and the Specialist Network Intensive Care Medicine - CritCare – and to make processes more efficient.
To meet the growing and diverse requirements, Dr. Thomas Rupprecht and Alexander Engelbrecht came together at the Justus Liebig University Giessen for a joint hackathon. There, they worked intensively on the extensibility of their systems in order to expand the technical foundation for a flexible and future-proof recruitment platform.
The focus was on revising the system architecture toward consistent modularity. Uniform, open interfaces will make it possible in the future to flexibly replace individual software components. In this way, the team is creating the technological foundation to be able to tailor the architecture precisely to the different requirements of the individual sites in the future.
A crucial aspect for future scaling is also technological integration: The systems are to be designed in such a way that they can seamlessly connect to the technologies of the Data Integration Centers (NUM DIZ), which are expected to install and host the systems in the future.
Initial prototypes of the new components have already been successfully implemented. The team is now looking forward to driving this development forward intensively in the coming weeks.
