Establishment of a multi-disciplinary IT-Board at Dresden University Hospital - Kick-off for inter-organizational collaboration
June 17 marked an important milestone for the digital development of the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden (UKD) and the Faculty of Medicine of the Dresden University of Technology (MF-TUD): the hospital's Board of Directors hosted the official kick-off of the new IT-Board.
The kick-off event was attended by the Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Dr. Uwe Platzbecker, the Commercial Director of the hospital, Mr. Janko Haft, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine (MF-TUD), Prof. Dr. Esther Troost, the Directors of the ZMI, Prof. Dr. Martin Sedlmayr (CDO of the UKD/ CDIO of the MF-TUD) and David Senf-Mothes (CIO of the UKD), the Head of Division of the MF-TUD, Dr. Jessika Barlinn, Prof. Dr. Jakob N. Kather from the Else Kröner Fresenius Center (EKFZ) for Digital Health and representatives of MK1, PD Dr. Verena Plodeck as representative of Radiology, PD Dr. Witold Polanski from Neurosurgery, Dr. Jessika Weiß, Deputy Clinic Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychology, Nicole Falz as representative of the Finance Directorate and Head of Nursing Mirko Radloff as representative of the Nursing Directorate, the Medical Officer of the Executive Board, Dr. Florian Krause, Dr. Joachim Graf, ZMI department head for IT compliance, project management and strategy, and Anna Kather, who represented IT demand management, took part.
The broad-based, interdisciplinary committee thus guarantees the coming together of different interdisciplinary and cross-departmental perspectives, competencies and responsibilities with the aim of developing and effectively implementing a cross-location, future-proof, balanced, strategic and sustainable digitalization concept for University Medicine Dresden (HSMD).
The IT-Board acts as the central steering and decision-making body for digitalization, AI and IT projects at HSMD. It therefore combines the functions of a strategic IT-Board and an operational demand board.
In particular, it is responsible for developing, updating and managing HSMD's digital strategy and IT framework concept as well as evaluating, prioritizing and deciding on IT and digitalization requirements from all areas (care, research, teaching, administration), including the available investment and material resources.
The rules of procedure for the newly established IT-Board were presented at the kick-off event. The members also focused on three initial major topics: the transcription of doctor-patient conversations, the planned introduction of chatbots for UKD employees and the integration of AI-based doctor's letters. An expansion of the HELFI-ticket system and the Carusnet is also planned in order to offer staff larger platforms where they can place their wishes, needs and ideas and be seen.
