Under the NUM flag: Dresden at the NUM Study Network General Assembly 2026 in Frankfurt
How can digital solutions help to identify patients more quickly and more precisely for clinical trials – and thereby support study teams in recruitment?
How can clinical research in Germany become faster, simpler, more patient-oriented and more competitive internationally?
These were the questions addressed by Dr. Thomas Ruprecht and Alexander Engelbrecht from our Prescreening Team at the Center for Medical Informatics Dresden (ZMI), together with their colleagues from Giessen, Jacqueline Stöhr and Romina Blasini, at this year’s NUM Study Network General Assembly.
Together, the four provided insights into their work on the development and provision of a tool to support prescreening for patient recruitment in clinical trials.

The focus was on three questions:
→ How can study criteria be translated into a concrete recruitment proposal?
→ What can recruitment support software achieve?
→ What added value does digital support offer to study teams?
Digital transformation in clinical trials also played an important role in the programme of the General Assembly.
Dr. Thomas Ruprecht was part of the plenary session with panel discussion “On the way to the ‘self-navigating’ clinical trial?”. The discussion focused on how digital solutions can provide greater support for clinical trials in the future – ranging from existing research data infrastructures and digital services to the specific expectations of clinical trial physicians.
In addition to exciting updates, scientific exchange and discussions on important current topics, the General Assembly above all offered an opportunity to think together about the future of clinical research and develop new ideas.
