Vision
The scientific research area "Interoperability" aims to act as a pioneer for the seamless integration of healthcare systems. Our vision is to use innovative research and interdisciplinary collaboration to shape a future in which healthcare data can be exchanged in a secure, efficient and transparent manner between different systems and stakeholders. Health data should be accessible for healthcare and research regardless of geographical and institutional boundaries. Both research and clinical practice should benefit from a comprehensive pool of interoperable data, leading to faster and more sound scientific findings and innovations in medicine.
Our aim is to create the semantic, syntactic, technological and organisational foundations required for comprehensive interoperability in the healthcare sector. To achieve this goal, we are working on
- Development and implementation of applications in accordance with recognised standards
- Development of processes that enable the application and consideration of standards for data exchange in the healthcare sector.
- Further development of internationally recognised standards and protocols for data exchange in the healthcare sector.
- Promoting the standardisation of healthcare data formats and interfaces to ensure compatibility between different systems and applications.
- Research and innovation
- Conducting ground-breaking research to improve interoperability and overcome existing technological and organisational barriers.
- Develop new technologies and methods that facilitate and improve the integration and utilisation of health data.
- Promoting collaboration
- Establishing and maintaining partnerships with healthcare organisations, technology providers, research institutions and regulatory authorities at national and international level.
- Establishing a network of experts and organisations at national and international level that work together to improve interoperability in the healthcare sector.
- Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration between different stakeholders in the healthcare sector to develop and implement joint solutions.
Research areas
- Transformation of national standards and terminologies into international formats
- Design and implementation of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes for transferring data between different data models, e.g. from p21 to OMOP or from FHIR to OMOP.
- Development and provision of technical infrastructures for research, such as the OHDSI-OMOP tech stack or the MiHUBx service platform
- Evaluation of data quality
