Midwifery Studies
Scientific Work, Evidence-Based Midwifery (MFD-BA-HEB-13)
The module MFD-BA-HEB-13: "Scientific Work and Evidence-Based Midwifery Practice" is offered in the 5th semester and imparts key competencies in scientific work as a foundation for reflective and evidence-based midwifery practice. Students acquire methodological knowledge to understand scientific studies, critically evaluate them, and integrate their findings into decision-making processes within midwifery care.
A central focus of the module is the introduction to epidemiological and health services research fundamentals, including relevant measures used to describe health and disease in populations. In addition, students gain basic knowledge of probability theory and descriptive statistics to competently interpret statistical information in research findings.
Within the module, students learn how to systematically search for scientific literature using digital databases and research systems, as well as how to use reference management software. Furthermore, knowledge in methods of knowledge communication and scientific writing provides the basis for initial preparations for the Bachelor's thesis, especially the development of a research question and the creation of a research proposal (exposé).
Assessment: A 60-minute written exam and a scientific poster presenting the research question of the planned Bachelor's thesis, requiring an estimated workload of 30 hours.
The module is conducted in cooperation with the Centre for Evidence-Based Healthcare (ZEGV).
