Topics in this research section
The research team in the field of Health Sciences / Public Health recognizes health not as a lack of disease and disability, but as physical, psychological and social well-being as defined by the WHO. Research in the health sciences should be based on the identification of the as-is-condition in order to develop necessary measures, which must subsequently be evaluated.
The chair of Health Sciences / Public Health has been a Saxon project partner in the "Diabetes Surveillance" initiated by the BMG/RKI for several years. Surveillance does not provide particularly valid figures, but it offers a preliminary estimate or good approximation as long as there is no nationwide diabetes register.
Another research focus is quality of life and patient satisfaction. Questionnaire surveys on the life situation were carried out in cooperation with various self-help organisations (e.g. German Multiple Sclerosis Society, German Myasthenia Gravis Society). In addition to the validation of new measuring instruments, the focus was on the identification of patient groups with a high need for support. In cooperation with health insurance companies in Saxony, a total of 100,000 hospital patients were contacted in three waves and asked about their satisfaction with treatment and accommodation. These surveys were supplemented by qualitative and quantitative surveys of hospital management. Data from hospital statistics were also included by the Research Data Centre by the Saxon State Statistical Office.
Another focus is the evaluation of clinical pathways in the hospital, in general and especially in neurological rehabilitation. In several Cochrane reviews the current State of the Art has been meta-analytically examined.
