16 runners of the PLID joined 25,000 other runners on the 5km course of the 11th REWE Team Challenge.
Huge, loud, highly emotional. The 11th edition of the REWE Team Challenge has set new standards with incredible 25,000 participants - more than ever before, more than anywhere else. And once again there were 16 running enthusiasts from the Paul Langerhans Institute in Dresden among them!
After five kilometers on the running track it all was accomplished. The arms were torn up and selfies were made. On May 29th 2019, 16 runners from the Paul Langerhans Institut Dresden (PLID) took for the fourth time part in the annual REWE Team Challenge. Together with other 25,000 runners, the 4 teams took the traditional route from the Altmarkt in Dresden to the Rudolf-Harbig Stadium. Under cool conditions, the PLID teams were able to achieve their best overall rankings so far. The mixed team "Paul Runnerhans Two" finished with a total time of 1:33:55 and an outstanding 99th place out of a total of 2778 mixed teams. A few seconds later the "Paul Runnerhans Three" running team reached the finish line with a total time of 1:34:09 on another excellent 107th place. The teams "Die Inselbegabten" and "Paul Runnerhans Three" were happy about the grandiose places 1226 (1:52:02) and 1228 (1:52:03). Moreover, the PLID runners were also able to achieve new best times in the individual classification. Mandy "Roadrunner" Rödiger crossed the finish line already after 0:23:24 and could reach the incredible place 275 (of 8656 in total) of the women's overall ranking. Florian "Rocketman" Schepp achieved the fastest time of the PLID runners with 0:20:05 in the men's race and reached place 422 (out of a total of 13,584) in the men's overall standings.
Congratulations and highest respect for this great success! Our sincere thanks go to the German Center for Diabetes Research e.V. (DZD) and the Helmholtz Zentrum München (HMGU) for their financial and material support and of course to all those who participated!
