PLID research projects funded by DFG and GIF
Two research groups of the IPI/PLID received project funding for the next three years.
One project will be financially supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Dr. Anthony Gavalas (PLID/CRTD) successfully applied for funding for a project entitled „Identification and functional analysis of a candidate stem cell population in the adult mouse pancreas“. This project aims to document the self-renewal and longevity of murine aldehyde dehydrogenase 1b1 (Aldh1b1) positive cells, their contribution to the organ during pancreas homeostasis and after injury and to address the functional significance of Aldh1b1 expression in self-renewal and differentiation of the adult pancreas stem cells in the mouse.
Prof. Michele Solimena (PLID) and Prof. Gil Leibowitz of the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center in Jerusalem received funding by the German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (GIF) for a collaborative project entitled ”Crosstalk between autophagy and insulin secretion: implications for the treatment of diabetes”, which aims to define the role of autophagy for turnover of insulin granule stores.
