Paul Langerhans Institute Dresden becomes a full member of DRESDEN-concept

Starting 1 January 2024, the Paul Langerhans Institute Dresden (PLID) has become a full member of DRESDEN-concept, a research alliance of 37 partner institutions, including TUD Dresden University of Technology and non-university research and cultural institutions from the Dresden region.

Membership of DRESDEN-concept offers PLID the opportunity for more intensive collaboration and exchange with other research institutions in Dresden. This integration promises deeper networking and strengthens PLID's position as a major player in diabetes research in Germany.

The inclusion in DRESDEN-concept not only reflects the growing recognition of the PLID in the international research community, but also helps to further use and expand the outstanding research infrastructure in Dresden. The PLID thus continues its path of developing innovative solutions in the field of diabetes research and contributes to the strengthening of Dresden as an outstanding science location.

The PLID focuses on research on the pancreatic islets of Langerhans, in particular the insulin-producing beta cells that are dysfunctional or destroyed in diabetes, but also addresses other related aspects such as insulin resistance and public health. The PLID supports 15 research groups, devoted to investigate various aspects of diabetes, from deciphering the underlying mechanisms to developing new therapeutic approaches. The mission of the PLID is clearly defined: to protect and restore insulin-producing beta cells for the prevention and cure of diabetes mellitus. Its international and interdisciplinary team of preclinical and clinical scientists guarantees the translational orientation of its research.
