The ZML is constantly evolving and currently consists of five research groups.

Prof. Ünal Coskun is the founder and head of the center:
Ünal heads the group of Membrane Biochemistry.
Prof. Maria Fedorova heads the group of Lipidome Research.
Dr Michal Grzybek heads the group of Signal Transduction.
Prof. Ingmar Schaefer heads the group of Structural Membrane Biology.
Dr. Julia Preobraschenski heads the group of Membrane Transport Processes.
