Collaborative Research Centre 1415
The Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) 1415 "Chemistry of Synthetic Two-Dimensional Materials" focuses on the controlled "bottom-up" synthesis and development of novel synthetic two-dimensional materials (2DMs) with high structural definition at the atomic or molecular level. This is complemented by in-situ and ex-situ spectroscopic, microscopic and diffractive characterization of 2DMs. Furthermore, theoretical methods and models make an essential contribution to the prediction of the formation of 2DMs and their physical/chemical properties .
The subproject A05 " Chemical Access to 2D Topological Insulators via Delamination" will focus on the development of appropriate wet chemical exfoliation techniques for topologial insulators (TIs) such as Bi14Rh3I9 and related layered compounds, Bi2TeX (X = Br, I), Bi2MnTe4, and GaGeTe. In particular, this includes the synthesis of high-quality crystals as starting materials, as well as the chemical and physical characterization of the products by quantum theory and various experimental techniques. Thus, the project aims at chemically and structurally defined 2DMs with 1 to 10 layers and lateral dimensions of at least 1 μm.
