Saccharified Uranyl Ions: Self-Assembly of UO22+ into Trinuclear Anionic Complexes by the Coordination of Glucosamine-Derived Schiff Bases
Saccharify your uranyl ions! The cover art shows a cotton candy machine at a country fair. By feeding uranyl ions and a sugar-based ligand into it, a trinuclear uranyl complex is formed, illustrated as cotton candy. The complex shows the coordination motive of three uranyl ions in the core, bridged by a central μ3-oxo ligand, surrounded by the three sugar ligands. This work presents spectroscopic investigations into the complex formation and its self-assembly. More information can be found in the Full Paper by J. J. Weigand et al. (DOI: 10.1002/chem.202100546).
