P−P Condensation and P−N/P−P Bond Metathesis: Facile Synthesis of Cationic Tri‐ and Tetraphosphanes

Metathesis and condensation of P−N and P−P or P−H bonds are powerful strategies to access polyphosphanes. In their Research Article (DOI: 10.1002/anie.201911483), J. J. Weigand and co‐workers apply these methods to the synthesis of new polyphosphorus cations. Starting from simple building blocks, cationic triphosphorus and catena‐tetraphosphorus compounds were isolated and characterized. Complexation studies with coinage metal salts hint at a rich coordination chemistry for such phosphorus‐rich species.
