Organic electronics is opening up an entirely new generation of low-cost, robust, lightweight and flexible electronic devices. Using low molecular weight organic compounds and polymers, the technology enables devices to perform functions at a lower cost compared to those made of inorganic semiconductor materials. Two-dimensional (2D) conjugated polymers have so far received little attention. The EU-funded T2DCP project plans to develop 2D conjugated polymers based on thiophene with a tailored electronic band gap. These polymers are expected to demonstrate superior performance in terms of charge carrier mobility and defect tolerance. Using a solution synthesis method, the project aims to integrate the 2D conjugated polymers in organic field-effect transistors.
