Talk Title & Abstract:
2D TMDs for energy storage and generation
In this talk, I will discuss how 2D transition metal dichalcogenides can be used for energy storage and generation applications. Specifically, I will discuss our results on metallic 2D TMDs for lithium-sulfur batteries. Our results show that metallic MoS2 is the ideal host for sulfur because it catalyses desirable sulfur reduction reactions, provides fast diffusion for lithium ions, facilitates adsorption of polysulfides, and induces polymerisation in the electrolyte. All of these properties lead to high energy and long life Li-S batteries. Then, if time permits, I will discuss our recent results on high efficiency photovoltaics based on semiconducting 2D TMDs.
