The Department of Organic Chemistry
The Organic Chemistry department has three Chairs with more than 40 employees. Projects are currently being carried out in the fields of natural product synthesis, transition metal and organocatalysis and quantum chemistry.
Organic Chemistry at the TUD Dresden University of Technology was shaped by well-known scientists such as Roland Scholl, Walter König, Friedrich Asinger, Karl Gewald, Roland Mayer and Hans-Ulrich Reißig. Important contributions to organic synthetic chemistry were made here, such as the production of synthetic organic dyes, the development of the Asinger thiazoline synthesis and the Gewald reaction for the production of 2-aminothiophenes as well as the development of new methods for the synthesis of organic sulphur compounds and natural substances.
