Internationalisation at Home (Int@Home)
TU Dresden sees itself as an open, tolerant and internationally oriented university. It is integrated into a worldwide network of collaborations in research and teaching. As a result, intercultural and international competences are of great importance in daily interaction.
In the spirit of Int@Home, the School of Science supports University members in gaining international experience at their home University and in acquiring intercultural and international skills.
Int@Home creates a living culture of welcome for foreign students, scientists and international guests.
- Studying in an international context:
At the School of Science, we place special emphasis on this, as is reflected in the School’s International Study Programs. - Learning languages from each other, finding out more about the culture and the home country of your language partner, and exchanging knowledge from different fields of activity:
A “Language tandem – improve your skills and find friends” (a service of the Multimedia Language Center - MSZ - at TU Dresden) makes this possible. - Intercultural encounters and exchange between international students and Germans:
Students will find a wide range of offers at TU Dresden’s Cultural Office. - Making new friends – to this end, Studentenwerk Dresden and Café Lingua, the regulars’ table for language lovers, have interesting projects on offer.
- Support for newly-arrived international students:
AEGEEarranges contacts between German and international students via its buddy program. In the tutoring program, international students receive help from experienced students.
At the heart of “Internationalization at Home” lies the internationalization of teaching. To this end, there are many options, such as integrating international components into teaching, cooperating with international colleagues and inviting them to guest lectureships, or in turn sending teaching staff abroad.
The great efforts of the research assistants and lecturers of the School to internationalize teaching, and to impart international knowledge and intercultural competences is reflected in the constantly expanding international studies program.
Increasing numbers of international students and projects with international partners and visiting professors from abroad place new demands on administrative staff. In order to improve support for staff members, Technische Universität Dresden organizes "SPRachlich und INTerkulturell - Fit for the World with the SprInt Program”, a linguistic and intercultural qualification program for non-academic staff.
The International Office at the School actively promotes a vibrant culture of welcome for international scientists and guests of the School. In this context, regular events for exchanging ideas and networking are held. Intercultural workshops and the organization of summer schools and conferences are also supported.
As part of the "Living together" series of events, the International Office at the School of Science holds numerous events and intercultural workshops for participants to exchange ideas.
