Dresden
The summer school will take place in Dresden, one of Germany’s most beautiful cities. The city is famous for both an overwhelming cultural heritage with numerous museums as well as a large number of research institutions, making Dresden one of the most prospering cities of Germany. Another highlight is the location of Dresden in the valley of the river Elbe and the proximity to the picturesque Elbe Sandstone Mountains.
Touristic information about Dresden
Technische Universität Dresden
In 2012, Technische Universität Dresden has been awarded the title “Excellence University”, indicating it as one of the leading German Universities. The research group Geometric Modeling and Visualization (GMV) is part of the Institute of Geometry within the Faculty of Mathematics. GMV is in cooperation with several chairs of civil engineering, architecture and design. Further research activities connect GMV also to non-university research institutions.
Working space
The summer school AMBS will take place in the spacious Makerspace of the SLUB (Saxon State and University Library in Dresden) on the main campus of the TU Dresden. We will have our own space close to all the 3-D printers, laser cutters, hot wire cutters, and additional machinery of the Makerspace for perfect convenience during design and experimentation. A Universal Robot UR 10 is also part of the equipment.
Locations of AMBS-Events
Additional details about the locations of the AMBS events will appear in the program.

Travel
You can reach Dresden by plane, train, car, bus or boat (the latter is not meant to be very serious)
- Dresden International Airport (IATA-Code: DRS). From there you can reach the venue with the train S2 (every 30 minutes) to the main station.
- Railway stations: The railway station close to the venue is the main station (Dresden Hauptbahnhof). The renovation of the station was – by the way – an awarded project of Foster + Partners. From the main station you can reach the campus taking the tram 3 or 8 to station Nürnberger Platz and walk five minutes. An alternative is the bus line 66 where you can depart directly at station Technische Universität. Another Dresden railway station on the other shore of the Elbe is called Dresden Neustadt. To reach the campus from there, take tram 3 until Nürnberger Platz. The trams and busses go regularly every 10 to 15 minutes.
- The highways to Dresden are A13 (via Berlin), A14 (via Leipzig), A4 (via Chemnitz or Görlitz), A17 (via Prague).
- You can also reach Dresden via Flixbus (https://www.flixbus.co.uk/).
Accommodation
The accomodation is still to be announced.
Transportation and mobility
We are working on providing all participants with a rental bike. But of course there is also a very well developed local transport network.
