Doctorate and Habilitation
You are interested in a doctorate or habilitation in mathematics?
On behalf of Technische Universität Dresden, and on the basis of doctorate proceedings, the School of Science confers the academic degree of Dr. rer. nat. (Doctor rerum naturalium) or a Ph.D. (Doctor of Philosophy). The right to teach in mathematics is attributed through the habilitation, and the qualification "habil." is added to the doctoral degree.
The doctorate can be achieved by traditional means, i.a. a thesis and an oral examination (rigorosum) or in the framework of doctoral studies with a doctoral thesis and examinations alongside the studies (substitution of the doctoral oral examination).
For information see:
Doctorate (Faculty of Mathematics)
Detailed answers for many questions related to doctoral studies also can be found on the webpages of the School of Science: Doctorate (School of Science)
The habilitation is the formal confirmation of the special qualifications to research and independent teaching in mathematics (teaching qualification). See: Habilitation
