Amplitude Phase-Field Quasicrystal Presenter: Marcello de Donno Abstract: Quasicrystals challenge traditional crystallography due to their unconventional atomic configuration, lacking periodicity yet maintaining long-range order, placing them between crystalline and amorphous states. Since their discovery in 1982, quasicrystals have exhibited potential in enhancing the mechanical properties of alloys, offering increased strength, hardness, and resistance to wear. Moreover, their ability to reduce friction makes them promising candidates for coatings aimed at minimizing wear in moving components. |
