Presentation on the German Center for Astrophysics on 16.1.2025 as part of the Dresden Industry Talks
As part of the Dresden Industry Talks of the German Physical Society (DPG), a lecture on the German Center for Astrophysics will take place on 16.1.2025:
Thursday 16.01.2025, 19:00
Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems
Nöthnitzer Straße 38, 01187 Dresden
Prof. Dr. Günther Hasinger (German Center for Astrophysics, TU Dresden and DESY):
On the way to the German Center for Astrophysics: Research. Digitization. Technology.
The lecture will describe the goals and the development of the new large-scale research center in eastern Saxony. By 2038, the center is expected to employ around 1000 people and create a further 2000 jobs in the surrounding area. The three pillars of astrophysics, digitization and technology are to work on their own, but closely interlinked, internationally visible core research areas. The DZA is currently in the start-up phase, creating the structures for the future center within the framework of federal project funding. A legally independent company is to be founded in 2025 and will receive institutional funding in 2026. From the very beginning, networking with local industry and preparing the corresponding transfer is a central concern of the DZA.
The lecture is open to members of the DPG as well as to people who are not members of the DPG. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for an informal exchange over light refreshments. Participation via Zoom is possible. For planning purposes, please register at the following link: https://www.dpg-physik.de/veranstaltungen/2025/astro
The Dresden Industry Talks of the German Physical Society (DPG) are a regional activity of the Industry and Business Working Group (AIW). They are primarily aimed at physicists working in industry, but also at all other interested parties. They offer a forum for the exchange of experience and transfer of scientific knowledge into practice. At the same time, the aim is to promote the development of a network.
