Welcome to the Research/Instructional Support Workshops at the Department of Physics
The support workshops are a collection of facilities that offer comprehensive services for all staff at the Department of Physics and the TU Dresden. Experimental stations and apparatus for research, as well as setups and devices for instruction and laboratory courses are planned and fabricated according to your needs. We offer support and advice to you during the development and construction phases of your experimental apparatus, fabricate individual parts or complete units according to your specifications, or conduct repairs. In addition, we can draw on our numerous contacts for the acquisition of semi-finished products, standard parts, and other technical articles.
The equipment fabricated in the support shops meets the highest standards of precision mechanics. It is used in the experimental laboratories of the Department of Physics, in other faculties at the TU Dresden, at external partner institutions (HZDR, Fraunhofer, and others), and in large, international research facilities (DESY – Hamburg, CERN – Geneva, ESRF – Grenoble, and others).

The support shops participate in the central vocational education programme at the TU Dresden. During the 6-month apprenticeship for industrial machinists (precision mechanics), skills particularly necessary to the construction of specialised devices for physics are practised.
Further information can be found on the pages of the individual workshops. Please contact us for answers to construction questions and to clarify fabrication and processing details.
