Available Experimental Methods at the FEG-SEM Ultra55 and Examples of Applications
Abstract
An overview is given of the experimental methods currently available on the scanning electron microscope with field emission gun, such as imaging of structures; electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) for the determination of crystal orientation, phases, textures and internal stresses; energy dispersive x-ray analysis (EDX) for the analysis of chemical composition and spatial element distribution; as well as cathodoluminescence measurements (CL) for investigating the luminescence behaviour of materials. If required, the measurements can also be carried out at low temperatures. The methods are illustrated by application examples. Information is also provided on how to gain access to performing independent measurements at the SEM and what activities can be expected at the SEM in the near future.
