Long Night of Science!

We had a lot of fun introducing diffraction and microscopy with our optical "toy beamline"! This demonstration experiment resembles a real X-ray beamline at a synchrotron light source - a powerful large-scale facility for studying materials on atomic length and time scales. At the Long Night of Science we did, of course, not use synchrotron radiation, but tricks with optical light to make the invisible visible or the visible invisible! Visitors could play with the optical setup, explore the relationship between diffraction and microscopy, and perform the Fourier transform!
