New High-Pressure Record at VEGA!
Two proud and happy experimentalists: Esteban Aguirre-Garcia and Tobias Ritschel at our high-pressure instrument VEGA.
We are excited to share our latest in-house record at VEGA: 35 GPa at 17 Kelvin!
This means we created a pressure of 350.000 atmospheres (3.5×1010 Pa) and a temperature of -256°C. Combining such high pressures and low temperatures creates truly extreme conditions –ones that cannot be found anywhere in the universe, except in some very special laboratories.
Our mission is clear: to boldly go where no one has gone before! In this exciting experiment, Esteban and Tobias explored the structural evolution of a topological quantum material in uncharted territory using high-resolution single-crystal X-ray diffraction. This is by no means an easy task, but one they mastered with great success!
And we’re not stopping here. With confidence and excitement, we aim to push the boundaries further towards pressures of at least 60 GPa and temperatures as low as 10 K.
