SIRIUS
Advancing X-ray Research with High Brilliance and Sensitivity
We are thrilled to introduce SIRIUS (Strong Intensity x-Ray Instrument with Ultra-high Sensitivity), a groundbreaking laboratory instrument designed for the exploration of quantum materials at the atomic scale. Equipped with the innovative liquid anode x-ray source MetalJet by Excillum and a Pilatus 1M detector, SIRIUS offers remarkable primary intensity and sensitivity.
At the heart of SIRIUS lies the MetalJet, a liquid anode x-ray source that surpasses the intensity of conventional solid anode sources by two orders of magnitude. Unlike solid anodes, which have power restrictions due to the risk of melting, the MetalJet actually operates with a molten anode, eliminating this limitation. The MetalJet source exhibits impressive brilliance, comparable to first-generation synchrotron beamlines employing Wiggler sources.
SIRIUS also features custom-made multilayer optics by AXO, delivering a low-divergence beam with a small beamspot of 70 micrometers on the sample. The precisely shaped beam enables detailed investigations into material structures and properties with very high resolution. The instrument offers fixed photon energies of either Ga Kalpha (9.24 keV) or In Kalpha (24.1 keV), providing versatile options for experimentation.
For accurate sample manipulation and positioning, SIRIUS is equipped with a powerful high-precision 6-circle diffractometer manufactured by Huber Diffraction. This advanced diffractometer offers both vertical and horizontal scattering planes, facilitating complex cryogenic sample environments and surface sensitive diffraction experiments.
The scattered intensity is detected by a 1M Pilatus CdTe detector, further enhancing the instrument's sensitivity. With a detection efficiency three times higher than that of VEGA, the combined effect of increased primary intensity and detection efficiency yields an impressive sensitivity enhancement of up to 2 orders of magnitude compared to VEGA. What would require approximately a year of measurement time on VEGA can now be accomplished in just a few days using SIRIUS.
SIRIUS is a custom-made instrument, meticulously designed to provide unrivaled performance. Its exceptional capabilities are truly one-of-a-kind, which we hope will enable to obtain groundbreaking results.
