New Emmy-Noether Group at ITP
Dr. Tobias Meng from the Institute of Theoretical Physics has been selected for the Emmy Noether programme of the Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). This allows him to set up a new research group on the theme of „Quantum Design: understanding, creating, and controlling novel states of matter“ with a funding of up to 1.08 million Euros.
His research is focussed on the constructive creation and control of special quantum states. „One of our aims is to understand how exciting physics can be created by combining nano-sized building blocks. This is a bit like playing Lego on a quantum scale. An important motivation for our work stems from future technologies such as quantum computers“.
Tobias Meng’s research proposal was chosen by the Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft in a competitive international selection process. „I am truly honoured by the acceptance in the Emmy Noether programme, and our research team is very much looking forward to get started in April 2017“.
The Emmy Noether Programme supports outstanding young scientists in gaining the qualifications required for a university career by funding independent junior research groups. The funding period is usually lasting five years.
Tobias Meng studied physics in Karlsruhe and Grenoble, and obtained his PhD in the group of Prof. Achim Rosch in Cologne. After a postdoc stay at the university of Basel, he joined the TU Dresden in 2014.
