The topics of this project are the search for novel frustrated materials, their targeted syntheses and their chemical modification. The focus will especially be laid on geometrically frustrated systems in layered type structures with considerable chemical variability. We identified two families of compounds as very promising, thiodelafossites hosting rare earth metals on regular triangular nets and hydroxides with transition metals on honeycomb layers.
