In this project, we plan to develop new frameworks for the classification and detection of topological phases of frustrated magnets. The project has three main objectives: First, we plan to study realizations of symmetry-protected topological phases in one-dimensional systems, including their experimental signatures. Second, we will develop new tools to detect signatures of intrinsic topological order and simulate simple but paradigmatic two-dimensional spin models, chosen with an eye towards concrete materials such as the Herbersmithites. Third, we will investigate topological Hubbard models where we can simulate the interplay of spin-orbit coupling and electron-electron interactions being relevant for iridate compounds.
