In this project, thermodynamic and magnetoelastic properties of magnetically frustrated materials shall be studied down to very low temperatures and extreme magnetic fields (ultimately up to 100 T). It is aimed to uncover and investigate possible new states in these materials. For that, measurements of the specific heat, magnetization, magnetostriction, and ultrasound will be performed. This will allow to study phase diagrams, critical phenomena, and field-induced novel phases in detail. The magnetostriction and ultrasound experiments will allow to investigate spin-lattice coupling, i.e., the influence of the lattice on the magnetic interactions and vice versa.
