This project investigates the electronic and magnetic real-space structure of frustrated materials down to the atomic length scale using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy (STM/STS), including its spin-polarized variant, and magnetic force microscopy (MFM). By STM/STS we aim at extracting local electronic densities of states and quasiparticle interference patterns. Magnetic probe measurements will enable us to study intrinsic and defect-induced magnetic textures, including skyrmions. In order to study field-dependent phenomena and manipulate magnetic textures, we will set up a dedicated STM/ MFM system with large rotatable magnetic field vectors.
