Short Description
Teaching Profile. The program offers a broad spectrum of coordinated courses in all important basic subjects, in methodology and psychological diagnostics, as well as in several practice- and research-oriented specialization subjects. Thus, students can expect a training program in clinical psychology and psychotherapy that is unique in Germany (which is supplemented by a postgraduate program); a traditional and excellent specialization in the field of work-organizational and business psychology; as well as advanced courses in applied cognitive research and cognitive ergonomics, the psychology of teaching and learning, educational psychology, and traffic psychology. In the course of the conversion to a consecutive study structure, a research-oriented specialization subject "Cognitive-Affective Neuroscience" will also be established in the Master's program. In the ranking of the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE), the Faculty of Psychology achieved excellent marks for teaching quality and, with an average of 11.2 semesters, had one of the shortest study durations in psychology in Germany. This is due to the clearly structured study organization and the high personal commitment of the teaching staff as well as many supporting measures (e.g. mentoring and tutoring programs, intensive study counseling, first semester week) and the relatively small seminar sizes. Further information on teaching can be found here and on the professorships' websites.
Research Profile. In the latest CHE research ranking (May 2010), the Faculty of Psychology achieved a top position. In order to further expand the excellent level of research, the Faculty of Psychology is pursuing a forward-looking profile development, which includes the expansion of three interdisciplinary research foci:
I. Cognitive-Affective neuroscience
II. Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy
III. Human Performance in Socio-Technical Systems
The faculty has a diverse research infrastructure (e.g., several EEG laboratories; "state-of-the-art" eye tracking laboratories; endocrinology and immunology laboratories). A laboratory for molecular genetic analyses in the field of biopsychology and personality psychology as well as a neuroimaging laboratory (3-Tesla fMRI scanner) acquired by Clinical Psychology, General Psychology, and Addiction Research have started their work in 2007. Further information on our research focus can be found here and on the websites of the professorships.
