New project: Assistance systems in ear surgery
Milling in the skull bone generates noise. This noise cannot be avoided during cochlear implant surgery, but it can be reduced in such a way that the patient's remaining hearing is not damaged. However, this presents surgeons with the challenging task of adapting various process parameters to suit the situation. How can surgeons be supported in this with the help of AI?
The INAK project (interactive user-centered assistance system for bone surgery in the head area), in which we are involved from 2024-2026, is dedicated to this question. This project will first determine what information surgeons need during surgery. Based on this, process models for noise generation will be created and an AI-based assistance system will be developed and tested.
