Do teachers recognise psychological distress in students and how do they respond to it?
Teachers can be some of the most important people in a young person’s life. In particular when a young person becomes mentally ill, teachers can play an important role in the identification of symptoms and encouragement for help-seeking behaviours. But do teachers feel confident in their ability to support mentally ill students? How well can they recognise the signs of psychological distress, and are they aware of what services are available? What further training do they need to better support their students in stressful situations? M. Sc. Wibke Neumann and M. Sc. Luna Grosselli set out to answer these questions.
