In our research projects
...we deal with the prevention and early detection of mental illnesses in children and adolescents, with the diagnostic evaluation and classification of mental disorders and support for children, adolescents and their families.

Our main research priorities are:
Early detection - How can we use findings on the age of onset of mental disorders, sensitive time windows and putative risk factors to detect children with an increased likelihood for developing emotional and behavioural disorders at an early stage?
Improved referral - 10-15 years of life often elapse between disorder onset and first treatment. Then, from initial complaints, distinct disturbance patterns have alreay developed and disrupted the lifes of the young and their family. So how can the health care system work together to improve the course of mental illness care?
Optimized treatment - Not all patients receive treatment, not all patients benefit equally from such a treatment. How can various barriers to the use of health care services be overcome? How should we design treatment approaches so that they reach as many people as possible and have a long-lasting effect?
