Julia Baumgärtel studied psychology at the Leopold Franzens University in Innsbruck and at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz (diploma). During her studies she worked as a scientific assistant in the field of medical psychology and medical sociology. Her diploma thesis dealt with the effects of post-migration stressors on the mental health of traumatised refugees and torture victims. In 2014 she began her training as a psychological psychotherapist (behavioural therapy). Since November 2017 she has been working as a research assistant at the Institute for Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the TU Dresden. As part of the Psychnet TUD project, she helped set up a web-based information portal on mental health. Since November 2018 she has been working in the project Network for Suicide Prevention in Dresden (NeSuD).
