New project: Disentangling Substance Use and Disorder
High impulsivity and low inhibitory control as well as neural markers related to these traits are indicated as general risk factors for substance use disorders across different substances. This project aims to examine whether these risk factors specifically predict a higher risk to develop substance-related problems, the dimension that is critical for substance use disorders. We will use a dimensional approach suitable for identifying the relevance of a risk factor for substance-related problems above and beyond the degree of substance use. Furthermore, by combining the assessment of neural markers of impulsivity and inhibitory control within the same sample, we will identify the most relevant neural markers by comparing their relative involvement in problem development.
