Welcome!
Substance use disorders and other dependent forms of addictive behaviour such as pathological gambling represent a great and often long-lasting burden for those affected and their relatives. However, the risk for such diseases is unevenly distributed: Despite comparable exposure, only a part of the population falls ill without us being able to understand and predict this well to this day. The overriding goal of our work group is therefore a better understanding of individual risk profiles and aetiopathological processes as a basis for the early detection and special protection of vulnerable persons.
Prof. Dr. Gerhard Bühringer has been the head of the newly founded work group since September 2016. In 2005, he was appointed to the then newly founded professorship for addiction research and has been developing a comprehensive basic and application-oriented research program and a special outpatient clinic. Since 2016, Prof. Dr. Tanja Endrass has been the head of th Chair of Addiction Research
