A Strong Network for Education and the Future in Hoyerswerda
A new cooperation has been launched in Hoyerswerda that brings schools, science and business closer together. Under the patronage of the minister of science Sebastian Gemkow, numerous partners have signed an agreement to give young people an early orientation in future fields.
The aim is to provide pupils with practical insights into research and technology and to show them concrete paths for their studies and careers. Lord Mayor Torsten Ruban-Zeh emphasized the importance of joint initiatives to make prospects in the region visible and to attract skilled workers in the long term.
In addition to scientific institutions such as the German Center for Astrophysics, the Smart Mobility Lab of the TUD Dresden University of Technology and the Lausitzer Technologiezentrum Lautech GmbH, numerous schools from Hoyerswerda are also involved: the Léon-Foucault-Gymnasium, the Lessing-Gymnasium, the Oberschule Hoyerswerda, the Christliche Schule Johanneum (Oberschule and Gymnasium) and the Konrad Zuse Akademie. The network is supported by the city of Hoyerswerda and RAA Hoyerswerda/Ostsachsen e.V..
The collaboration is to be brought to life through formats such as project days, workshops, excursions and insights into laboratories and companies. This makes science tangible and strengthens the exchange between school and practice. Teachers also benefit from new impulses for contemporary teaching.
The impetus for the initiative came from the "Frühschicht" youth participation format, in which over 170 young people contributed their ideas for the future of the region. These are now being translated into concrete measures. Step by step, a resilient network is being created that combines education, innovation and regional development and opens up new prospects for young people in Hoyerswerda.
Early childhood education is also part of the initiative. For example, the Firlefanz daycare center from Lauta was a guest at the Smart Mobility Lab. The visit ties in with the cooperation with daycare centers concluded in December 2025, which introduces children of pre-school age to STEM topics in a playful way. In this way, curiosity for science and technology is awakened at an early age and encouraged in the long term.
